This is what makes soaps great! Four generations of family. So glad to see Lesley back, hope she hangs around. We don’t need to see everyone every day, but knowing they are in town and could appear any time is a great feeling.

“Remind me to leave at seven,” she instructed him, her tone serious. Her face was bright, though, a smile dancing on her lips, and he could only smile back.

“Of course,” he replied. He had had every intention of keeping that promise, of reminding her to leave when the hour was up.

He was staying up late, writing at his desk, when the lamps distracted him. He had already long stripped off his tie, his jacket, his button-down, and his shoes. All he had left was his t-shirt, his pants, and his socks; his belt was being removed as he stared at the tasseled edges of the lampshades. She had fallen partially asleep, a book on her chest, still in all of her work clothes. He moved his eyes from the lamps, to her, and back to the lamps. He sighed.

The clock read 6:55 already. He knew he had to wake her up, and he honestly had every intention of doing so when he crossed the room to her. He bent over and lifted the book off her chest, and it was then she stirred. She blinked and smiled at him, stretching her arms up above her head. Her hair had formed a soft halo around her head on the pillow.

“Hey,” she said softly. He played with the worn edge of the old book, trying to keep himself distracted so that he would remember what he had come over for.

“Hey,” he repeated back, his eyes focused on the book. She reached out and touched his wrist lightly with her fingertips. “You’ve got-”

“Did you save my page?” she interrupted, not even seeming to have noticed that he had been speaking. She motioned to the book when he just stared at her.

“I- Yes, I suppose I did.” He held the book up as proof, his middle finger caught between the pages where she had been reading. “Did you have a bookmark?”

“No, I was planning on finishing it,” she replied, her fingers wrapping around his wrist. She tugged gently. “Read it to me. Please?”

He finally looked at her; not at the book, not at the pillows, not at the lamp - directly at her. She smiled, but it was soft, sweet, and he forget entirely what he had to do. He climbed over her, into the bed beside her. She pressed against his side, her head beside his upper arm as he propped his head up on his hand. He held up the book so they could both see, and she pointed out her place for him.

“‘Later she remembered all the hours of the afternoon as happy — one of those uneventful times that seem at the moment only a link between past and future pleasure, but turn out to have been the pleasure itself,’” he read, his voice low and quiet. At some point, nearly lulled into sleep by the calm, even tone of his voice, she had looked over at his clock. It had gone far past seven - she did not even bother counting how far past the hour it was. She reached over and pulled the tassel to shut off the lamp.

Based off this picture with total disregard for the actual plot but with total regard for the actual ~~people~~ characters.

The book is Tender Is The Night by F. Scott Fitzgerald.
